Can an Automatic Riveting Machine Use My Own Rivet Gun? Main Unit and Gun Body Compatibility - BISUDI
Can an automatic riveting machine use my own rivet gun? Main unit and gun body compatibility explained
Customers often ask: they already have a manual rivet gun, so can they buy only the automatic feed main unit and keep using the original gun? The answer is "possible in some cases, but verification is needed". An automatic riveting machine is not simply "main unit + any gun"; the gun body and feed main unit must match in mechanical interface, feeding method, control signals and pulling force, or incomplete feeding, jams and unbroken mandrels easily occur.
I. Why the gun body and main unit must be matched
| Matching Point | Requirement | Consequence of Mismatch |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanical interface | The gun body needs a nail-receiving port and fixing position to dock with the feed tube | Rivets cannot enter the nozzle accurately |
| Feeding method | Blow-nail/grip-nail rhythm matches the main unit's nail-separation cycle | Empty nail, double nail, tube jam |
| Pulling-force match | Gun-body pulling force matches the rivet spec and main-unit air pressure | Mandrel won't break or rivet is loose |
| Control linkage | Trigger signal linked with feeding and counting | Cannot operate automatically and continuously |
II. Advantages of the original-equipment gun and main unit
The automatic riveting gun BISUDI develops as a set is deeply matched with the main-unit feed system; the nozzle, channel and nail-separation disc are designed to one set of rivet specifications and complete continuous-sampling verification before leaving the factory, with the complete machine passing a 30,000-cycle continuous riveting test without jamming. Using the original-equipment gun also ensures wear parts (nozzle, jaws, ejector pin, etc.) are supplied long term at cost, with clear after-sales commissioning responsibility, avoiding "the main-unit maker and gun-body maker each shifting blame".

III. What if you really want to use the existing gun body
Assessment can follow this process: (1) provide the original gun brand, model, photos and the rivet specification currently processed; (2) send the gun body to the factory (or arrange an engineer on site) for docking trial assembly with the main unit; (3) run continuous sampling with real rivets to verify feeding success rate, cycle and riveting quality; (4) decide after assessing modification cost and stability. Note that some manual guns have no automatic nail-receiving structure, and the modification cost approaches or even exceeds a new matched gun, making it poor value.
IV. Multi-gun and multi-specification scenarios
The one-out-of-two dual-gun model and robotic riveting cell demand even higher gun-body consistency, and it is usually recommended to directly adopt matched gun groups to ensure the two guns' cycle and pulling force are consistent; when one main unit must be compatible with multiple rivets, this can be achieved via nozzle changes and multi-channel configuration. Nationwide customers can book an engineer to bring the main unit and gun body on site and verify compatibility directly with site workpieces.
V. Wear parts and consumables of matched gun groups
| Category | Common Parts | Supply Method |
|---|---|---|
| Nozzle/nail-receiving tip | Matched to rivet head diameter specification | Stocked, supplied at cost, replaced on spec change |
| Clamping parts | Jaws, ejector pin, collet sleeve | Wear parts, recommend stocking by usage |
| Pneumatic parts | Seal rings, air tube fittings | Standard parts, inspect and replace periodically |
| Feeding parts | Nail-separation disc, channel fittings, sensors | Non-standard parts supplied per model |
Another benefit of using the original-equipment gun group is unified wear-part models and stable supply. It is recommended to purchase a spare set with the new machine delivery according to nozzle wear degree, and add appropriate stock for high-cycle lines, minimizing unplanned line stoppage.
Note that customer self-modification or use of gun bodies and accessories not confirmed by the manufacturer may affect feeding match and pulling-force output, and resulting faults are outside the whole-machine warranty scope; BISUDI recommends a compatibility assessment before deciding whether to keep the old gun. The assessment is free, an adaptability conclusion is issued for confirmed-dockable cases, and customer self-disassembly/modification of the main unit or gun body is not advised.
For the docking assessment it is recommended to also provide the site air-source pressure, planned main-unit placement and gun-body movement range, as these affect feed-tube length and station layout; for confirmed reuse of the old gun, the manufacturer supplies the connectors and fixtures needed for docking with the main unit and completes joint debugging during on-site installation, so the customer need not machine any adapter structure.
Gun Body Compatibility FAQ
Compatibility FAQ
Deciding only by the price difference is not advised. A mismatched gun body makes the whole equipment unable to run stably, and the money saved is far below the line-stoppage loss; after assessment a matched gun is usually more cost-effective.
It depends on the interface and feeding protocol, and can only be confirmed after sending the gun for trial assembly; dockable cases receive a clear adaptability conclusion.
BISUDI original nozzles, jaws and other wear parts are stocked and supplied long term at cost, and standard parts can ship quickly.
The replacement cycle relates directly to rivet material, daily output and maintenance, with no universal number of days; at trial and training the engineer gives spare-part advice per the customer's real cycle, and inspection-found wear beyond limit is replaced immediately.
